Is it possible?

if serotonin leaves your body via urination, why can't we measure the amounts of serotonin released beside urine in urine screen? if so...can we use this to diagnose depression? Is it possible?
You can measure the serotonin level in urine, but the serotonin products within urine are released sporadically, so it can't be used for diagnosis on a urine screen. You own to do a timed urine collection, usually 24 hours, and also refrain from drinking foods high surrounded by serotonin to prevent false elevations.
As far as I know it can be used to help out diagnose, but it isn't used much.
you can't measure serotonin directly within the urine because it doesn't get excreted total. we can measure the metabolites of serotonin (5-hiaa), but that's not a apposite test for depression.
